FOR ANY HALO FAN THIS BOOK IS A MUST. THE DETAILED ARTWORK THAT IS PROVIDED HERE WILL GIVE YOU A GREAT IDEA OF HOW THE GAME FIRST CAME ABOUT AND THE ORIGINS AND GROWTH OF THE OVERALL PRODUCT. THE ARTWORK IS AMAZING AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHARACTERS IS GREAT. THERE ARE ONLY TWO THINGS THAT I DISLIKED. FIRST OF ALL CERTAIN PICTURES (USUALLY RANDOM DRAWINGS) ARE QUITE OBVIOUSLY COMPTER SCANS OF THE ORIGINAL PENCILS. ITS A SHAME THAT SUCH DETAILED PICTURES END UP LOOKING RATHER PIXILATED DETRACTING FROM THE DESIGN DEPTH. ALSO, THE SECTION REGARDING LANDSCAPES IS LACKING ANY REAL INSIGHT. THERE ARE NUMEROUS PICS OF THE GAME MAPS BUT VERY FEW FLESHED OUT DRAWINGS OF THE MAPS PROGRESSION. MOST OF THE PENCIL DRAWINGS OF THE MAPS ARE SKETCHES AT BEST. AND CONSIDERING THAT THIS BOOK COVERS HALO AND ITS INEVITABLE SEQUEL IT SHOULDNT HAVE BEEN HARD TO COVER THE SUBJECT. BUT OVERALL THE BOOK DOESNT DISAPPOINT AND WILL GIVE ANY DESIGN, HALO OR ART FAN A GREAT READ.

The Art of Halo: Creating a Virtual World; text by Eric S. Trautmann, is a compilation of ideas, art and final products that came out of creators of the best game ever, Halo CE / Halo 2. I, definitely, enjoyed reading it. There is a large number of pictures, drawings and “in game” screen captures. The art, as would true Halo fan know, is outstanding. There were new and interesting facts about making of Halo in this book that made the experience of the game ever more fulfilling. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys video games and graphic arts. There is a lot to cherish in this book. Any true Halo fan must have it. For me, this is a book that lives on a coffee table, always there and never loosing the appeal! Something to go back to time after time! Great value for money!!!

I recently bought Halo for pc, and I picked up this book along with it. It’s filled with weapon designs, enemies, and vehicles. Plus there’s a section where it talks about how bungie was developing the idea for the game. If you are fan of Halo, then you would probably like this.
